Following recent government cuts, Sheffield City Council has handed over a number
of local libraries to the communityto be run as not-for-profit social enterprises for the good
of local residents and small local businesses.
Southey Community Library is one of these libraries.
It is now a thriving, valuable local hub for the surrounding community
and offers a wide range of activities and services.
|Monday||CLOSED||12:30pm - 5:30pm|

As part of Sheffield City Council’s efforts to reduce expenditure, we were told that we could either staff and run the library using unpaid volunteers, or they would have to shut it down entirely.
Obviously, shutting down entirely would be a real blow to Southey, so we are now one of Sheffield’s ‘Co-Opted Libraries’ in partnership with Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Libraries.
In the past, libraries were all about the book lending
but nowadays, we loan out DVDs and music and so much more.
We’re also a ‘Local Hub’ for a whole range of activities
-check out our weekly timetable for details.
